Sabrout’s monthly memoir-style Dysfluency revolves around heartbreak, whether this is romantic, or internal and self-imposed, or political — simply occurring by observing the state of the world. This sonic lore will be expressed and transmitted in the form of yearning drone-y Qow tracks, Ojerime and Space Afrika interludes, songs by Rai pioneer Cheikha Rimitti, and even non-musique including excerpts from Ghassan Kanafani and James Baldwin.
“One day Captain Tozer and his crew were performing their normal duties on the main deck, while down below the Africans played the instruments loudly. The crew listened. As the Africans played, they used their music to drown out the sound of their breaking shackles. Several rose from the hold, attacked the crew, and injured seven members.” excerpt from JJJJJerome Ellis
