Doula is an experimental sound designer, vocalist, DJ and producer from The Bronx. Her live performances employ experimental processing techniques to disfigure voice and instrument into raw signal expressions abstracted from their traditional musical contexts. Her work is a practice of breaking acoustic form and expectation to challenge politicized notions of the “aesthetic” and “grotesque”.

Doula is a resident artist and curatorial collaborator on 8ulentina’s SILLAGE, an event series and record label focused on experimentation, improvisation and alternative archival sonic practices.

As a DJ, she takes pleasure in haunting clubs and festivals with dramatic, intense, and unpredictable sets that layer textures from any number of global dance traditions or miscellaneous genres.
